Who are we?

The Football Fans Census was started by two supporters - Tim and Alex - who simply thought that the game of football would be much better off if the decision-makers and influencers were aware of what the fans thought.

They cut their teeth together in the Spring of 2002 - leading the fans fight against the UK's biggest media giants Carlton and Granada over their role in the ITV Digital fiasco.....

Can the Commercials
The FFC were aware of the serious implications the fiasco would have for the future of all of football especially the smaller clubs. Under the banner 'The Football Fans Union' they ran a national campaign called 'Can the Commercials' which called on fans to boycott adverts on ITV in protest.

The FFC founders turned ‘Can the Commercials’ into one of the biggest fans protests to date; the World Cup phase of the campaign, which involved boycotting ITV altogether, was a huge success, contributing to ITV’s audience being slashed in half - the figures, not the people.

In the process the campaign received backing from;

• All 72 League Clubs
• The Football League – David Burns: Chief Executive
• The Professional Footballers Association – Gordon Taylor: Chief Executive
• The League Managers Association - John Barnwell: Chief Executive
• Members of Parliament – Ivor Caplin MP

We would like to thank all the fans who supported and contributed to the campaign and those who helped to spread the word. Each one of the hundreds of emails we received was greatly appreciated.
