Fifa 'could suspend World Cup bidding nations'

Football Leagues/ Association and Governance

Certain bidding nations for future World Cups could be suspended from the application process, with an ethics committee due to meet on Wednesday (October 20th) to discuss the issue.

The situation has come about after it transpired that the Oceania representative Reynald Temarii and his Nigerian counterpart Amos Adamu may have offered to sell their votes relating to the 2018 or 2022 competitions.

An ethics committee could choose to suspend certain nations from the bidding process ahead of the December 2nd 2010 decision about where the two World Cups will be played.

However, the Mr Temarii appears to have complete faith in his innocence, saying: "I asked the Fifa president to investigate. I gave him a letter. It's important for me that the ethics committee investigates how I manage my relations with bidders."

Meanwhile, Mr Adamu has refused to comment, with a writer on Nigeria's World Cup blog calling for his resignation as a result of the accusations.
