Blackpool boss calls for video technology

Outspoken Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has called on the English FA to introduce video technology, dismissing suggestions that it would result in lengthy stoppages to individual matches.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Holloway implied that the presence of a fourth official to review TV replays would have prevented his own side from suffering at the hands of two controversial decisions against Manchester City over the weekend.

"The fourth official should be sat in a booth watching the action on television from all available angles," he explained. "It would not slow the game down at all. It would be a simple communication from the official to the ref."

Holloway added that referees and assistants are coming in for criticism for mistakes which are near-impossible for them to avoid given the lack of technological assistance they receive.

England's exit from the FIFA World Cup in the summer sparked renewed calls for video replays, with national team manager Fabio Capello urging footballing governing bodies to bring in goal line technology.
