A politician has warned Tottenham Hotspur that they risk dividing their football fans if they proceed with plans to move to the new Olympic stadium in Stratford, which would uproot the club from their traditional north London home.
Labour MP for Tottenham David Lammy admitted he had been surprised by the English Premier League side's proposal to take up the tenancy at the south London venue and described the idea as "entirely wrong-headed".
"Football clubs belong at the heart of their communities - [Tottenham Hotspur] fans would never forgive [the club] if they walk out of White Hart Lane," he explained.
Mr Lammy also welcomed Haringey Council's decision to grant planning permission to the suggested redevelopment of White Hart Lane and said Tottenham Hotspur have an opportunity to turn it into a "world-class stadium".
In a column for the People last weekend, legendary former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jimmy Greaves advised the club to consider a ground-share with West Ham United at the Olympic stadium.
