West Ham United's bid for the tenancy of the new Olympic stadium in Stratford has been boosted by the backing of UK Athletics (UKA), which believes their bid is closer to the original vision for the venue.
As the Olympic Park Legacy Committee mulls over the various schemes which have been submitted, UKA president Ed Warner publicly came out in support of West Ham United's proposal yesterday (October 12th 2010).
"We believe the collaboration of [West Ham United], Newham and UKA gives the strongest opportunity for a vibrant sporting legacy that will go well beyond 2012," he explained.
UKA has welcomed the club's commitment to retaining the athletics track - something rival bidders Tottenham Hotspur and partner AEG Europe believe would not be economically viable.
Reports emerged last week suggesting that moving into the Olympic Stadium may now be Tottenham Hotspur's first choice, ahead of redeveloping their existing home at White Hart Lane.
