Administration 'could end Liverpool bid'

The American consortium currently looking to take control of English Premier League football club Liverpool could withdraw its offer if the team go into administration, it has been claimed.

According to the Guardian, New England Sports Ventures (NESV) has grown concerned at recent developments in the ongoing saga, after it was revealed that the side - currently sitting 18th in the league - could be docked nine points.

There had previously been suggestions that the Merseyside outfit would not face a points penalty if they ended up in administration, but the possibility has not been ruled out by the English Premier League.

NESV has not made any further comment since confirming its intention in a buyout last week and the newspaper claims an unnamed Asian investor also remains interested in the club.

Over the weekend, Liverpool chief executive Christian Purslow said he was "not even contemplating" entering administration.
