Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are believed to be planning a legal challenge to an attempt to sell the English Premier League football club to the owners of American baseball franchise Boston Red Sox.
Although the Anfield side's board of directors opted to favour the offer of New England Sports Ventures - led by multi-millionaire John W Henry - Hicks and Gillett said his bid "dramatically" undervalued Liverpool and the pair promised to stand firm.
"To be clear, there is no change in our commitment to finding a buyer for Liverpool Football Club at a fair price," they said in a statement. "We will, however, resist any attempt to sell the club without due process or agreement by the owners."
The duo claimed they had invested in excess of £270 million into Liverpool and insisted they remain one of the English top flight's most profitable teams.
Football fans' groups have become increasingly vocal in their opposition to Hicks and Gillett's ongoing ownership, with Spirit of Shankly organising a protest march before last weekend's fixture with Blackpool.
