Troubled League One football club Sheffield Wednesday will have to return to the High Court once again, after HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) issued a third winding-up petition.
The order will go to court on November 17th 2010 and is the third Sheffield Wednesday have been hit with in as many months, with only a last-minute loan from the Co-operative Bank staving off the second earlier this month.
HMRC is seeking a payment of £600,000 from the Hillsborough outfit, but chief executive Nick Parker told a football fans' forum yesterday (September 29th) that an overseas oil company is prepared to clear some of the debt.
Parker would not comment on whether former Sheffield Wednesday manager and one-time Sunderland player Chris Turner is playing a role in brokering the deal.
Chairman Howard Wilkinson confronted a group of unhappy supporters after last weekend's home defeat to Southampton and promised them the club are "close" to securing investment.
