Millwall football fans have reacted with dismay to a plan which could see them lose their shareholdings in the Championship club and will voice their opposition next month, according to a report.

The Daily Mail has revealed that the football club have claimed the supporters' holdings in the south London outfit are too expensive to manage and suggested the administrative burden could be holding them back.

Fan Tim Warren told the newspaper the move is an "absolute scandal", adding: "I hold the shares with my brothers, but they originally belonged to our late father, Jim, who was a big Millwall fan and they have huge sentimental value."

Millwall chief executive Andy Ambler expressed sympathy with the supporters' concerns, but insisted that the club must reduce their overheads over the next few months if they are to remain competitive.

Earlier this month, American rap star Jay-Z suggested he could be interested in purchasing Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith's stake in English Premier League side Arsenal.
