Arsenal boss calls for FA crackdown

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called on the English FA to do more to stamp out bad tackles and reduce the number of players sustaining serious injuries as a result.

Speaking after midfielder Abou Diaby sustained damage to his right ankle following a challenge from Bolton Wanderers defender Paul Robinson, Wenger suggested that English football's governing body should do more to protect footballers.

"I love the way the game is played in England with one proviso: full commitment but always in getting the ball," he told the Telegraph. "When a guy closes his eyes and jumps with anger it's not right. I cannot protect the players, only the FA can do that."

Wenger added that it is also the responsibility of managers to impose discipline on their charges and claimed his comments were simply motivated by his love for the game.

Earlier this week, rap star Jay-Z suggested he could be on the verge of purchasing a stake in the north London football club.
