Portsmouth administrator Andrew Andronikou has lent his support to Hong Kong-based businessman Balram Chainrai's effort to take over at Fratton Park, following weeks of speculation.
The tycoon is poised to assume the reins at the troubled Championship football club for the second time if he receives the go-ahead from their board of directors and Andronikou told the Guardian the deal would be a "watershed" moment.
"I hope they say yes. They absolutely should do. But everything about this club has been like pushing a cart up a hill," he said. "The club will effectively be out of administration and out of the clutches of the Football League."
Andronikou suggested that Portsmouth could be on the road to recovery by March if the takeover goes forward, but warned that Chainrai will have to pay £13 million over the course of four years.
Cheshire student Thomas Lever was recently linked with a takeover bid, but Andronikou publicly expressed severe doubts about the viability of such an attempt.
