Peterborough United stadium set for overhaul

Plans to redevelop Peterborough United's London Road stadium have been unveiled by the local authority, which purchased the ground for £8 million in February.

Following months of consultation with developers, Peterborough City Council this week revealed details of the first phase of the project, which will see a state-of-the-art new stand developed at London Road's Moys End by 2013.

"The football club will be involved with the new partners in an ongoing capacity that will be of benefit to the community and hopefully our supporters as we move forward," said the football club's chief executive Bob Symns.

Peterborough United declared themselves "thrilled" that work on the stadium is finally set to get underway, but stressed that "sound and robust financial principles" have been central to the scheme.

Owner Darragh Macanthony's finances were called into question earlier this year, after it was revealed that the UK arm of his MRI Overseas Property firm had gone into liquidation.
