Welsh and English FAs in administrative wrangle

The Welsh FA (FAW) has rebuffed an attempt by its English counterpart to absorb Championship football clubs Swansea City and Cardiff City, one media outlet has claimed.

According to the Western Mail, English football's governing body ordered the FAW to relinquish its hold over the two sides to allow Soho Square to handle disciplinary matters involving the pair, but was swiftly rebuffed.

"We're led to believe this was an example of England trying to flex their muscles, but not getting their way," one FAW member said. "England were told in no uncertain terms the two clubs must remain under our umbrella."

The move is believed to have been partly driven by a number of complaints from English sides, who have expressed concern that the FAW is too lenient with its teams when it comes to punishing players' wrongdoing.

Cardiff City and Swansea City are among several Welsh clubs plying their trade in the English professional pyramid and the Welsh Premier League was not formed until 1992.
