Manchester United owners hit by financial woes

Unpopular Manchester United owners the Glazers have fallen behind on the mortgage payments for a number of their American businesses, a report has claimed.

According to a recent investigation by the Guardian, anti-Glazer investment banker Andy Green and the BBC's Panorama documentary series, the controversial family have fallen into default on four of their US shopping centres.

"They show that the Glazer family's only significant other business is making almost no money and certainly not generating the cash to reduce [Manchester United's] massive debts," Green told the newspaper.

He dismissed chief executive David Gill's claims the English Premier League football club are largely unaffected by their £700 million arrears and pointed out that Manchester United are burdened by "useless debts and huge interest payments".

Earlier this month, manager Sir Alex Ferguson called on the team's football fans to ensure any dissent directed at the Glazers does not become a distraction for his players.
