Tycoon promises Blackburn Rovers investment

An Indian businessman has promised to fork out millions of pounds on improving Blackburn Rovers' playing squad if his attempt to acquire the football club is successful.

Speaking to the Guardian, Ahsan Ali Syed dismissed suggestions he is looking to purchase the Lancashire side for his own financial benefit and claimed he has long been a fan of the team.

"For me the investment in [Blackburn Rovers] is more of a passion than a way to make a quick return on the balance sheet," he explained. "I am not investing to make a return in two years and walk away. I am coming in as a fan to invest in the long term."

Mr Syed added that manager Sam Allardyce has done a "fantastic job" and pledged to provide as much as £80 million to bring in new talent.

Blackburn Rovers were also reported to be the subject of a possible bid from Mumbai entrepreneur Saurin Shah, but his interest appears to have fizzled out.
