Aberdeen submit new stadium plans

Scottish Premier League football club Aberdeen have unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art new stadium at Loirston Loch in the south of the city and are now awaiting council approval.

The proposals for the £38 million development were submitted to Aberdeen City Council earlier this week, after other sites - including one close to the Kings Links golf course - were considered and eventually rejected.

"It isn't viable to redevelop Pittodrie. It is an outdated stadium and we have no other option but to relocate," said managing director Duncan Fraser. "There will be a full consultation process with fans."

Aberdeen hope the new ground will be lit by a red glow at night, similar to that of the Allianz Arena in Germany, which is home to four times UEFA Champions League winners Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich.

Another side searching for a new home are English Football League club Bristol City, who suffered a blow last month when the local council refused planning permission for a supermarket to be built on the site of Ashton Gate.
