Blackpool players receive bonuses

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has revealed that the newly-promoted side's stars have received their long-awaited bonuses for securing entry into the lucrative English Premier League.

Speaking to the Blackpool Gazette, Oyston claimed the football club had been waiting to receive funding before passing it on to the playing squad, but insisted that the money promised to the footballers has now been paid to them in full.

"We didn't get the first chunk of [English] Premier League money in the bank until Thursday [August 5th 2010]," he said. "I think they deserved it."

Oyston called on manager Ian Holloway's team to earn themselves another windfall by retaining the club's top-flight status, although rumours of dissatisfaction at a lack of investment in the squad have swirled around Bloomfield Road this summer.

Work to increase the stadium's capacity to 17,600 is currently ongoing and Blackpool's first fixture of the season has been shifted to Wigan's DW Stadium so a new temporary stand can be completed.
