Liverpool chief 'expects more takeover bids'

Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton reportedly expects to see more potential buyers tabling buyout offers for the English Premier League football club by the end of this week.

According to the Financial Times, a source close to the former British Airways boss claimed there are currently six interested parties jostling for position and Chinese tycoon Kenny Huang's bid is not yet guaranteed to go through.

"We hope to have two or three properly presented proposals [by the end of the week], including clarity on who is the bidder - or who is in the consortia - and proof of funds," the unnamed source told the newspaper.

Among Liverpool's other suitors are Kuwaiti businessman Rafer al-Kharafi, Syrian entrepreneur Yahya Kirdi and New York investment venture the Rhone Group, which offered to put £110 million into the Merseyside outfit in March.

An article in The Observer also suggested that Liverpool could end up being owned by the British taxpayer if a sale is not completed within two months.
