Reading fans voice anger at bus route closures

Fans of Reading Football Club have complained about the decision to close a number of bus routes to the Madejski Stadium.

One supporter, Daniel Mitchell, told BBC News that it could now cost him three times as much to get to the ground on match days, with people forced to take more expensive trains in lieu of road-based public transport.

However, a spokesperson for Reading claimed that there had not been enough interest in the Stagecoach-operated routes from Basingstoke and Farnborough, and Bracknell and Wokingham to justify keeping them open.

"[The services] had been very heavily subsidised since their inception in 2007, but the very low number of passengers sadly did not warrant a continued further outlay," the club said.

Changes have also been made to the entrances at the stadium ahead of the 2010-11 season and a new family parking area has been set up to improve access for those travelling to matches with young children.
