FA Cup replay fixtures may be dropped as part of plans to alter the English footballing calendar to accommodate a winter break for players.
The national side's disappointing performance in the recent FIFA World Cup has spared widespread debate regarding the number of matches played by the English Premier League's top stars, with senior figures such as Fabio Capello weighing in.
According to the Guardian, the proposal will be discussed at an FA board meeting today (July 15th 2010) as English football's governing body meets for the first time since England were dumped out by arch-rivals Germany.
It is hoped that the scrapping of FA Cup replays will convince English Premier League chiefs to countenance the idea of a two-week rest period, something which they have previously been unwilling to introduce.
Former England skipper David Beckham told a Yahoo! web chat - reported in the Mirror - that it could be "difficult" to convince football fans of the need for a winter break.
