Notts County clear tax bill

Recently-promoted League One football club Notts County have announced that all outstanding debts to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have been paid off in full.

The side were issued with a winding-up petition by HMRC back in January, but chairman Ray Trew announced on the team's website that finance director Jason Brewer has been informed that the order no longer stands.

"We are delighted to be able to close another sorry chapter in the club's recent past," Trew explained. "Today's announcement marks another huge step in the right direction for Notts County Football Club."

The chairman suggested that the resolution of the issue should allow new manager Craig Short to continue with his preparations for the new season, which gets underway with a clash against Huddersfield Town on August 7th 2010.

In recent months, HMRC has taken action against a number of football clubs including Portsmouth and Cardiff City as part of its ongoing campaign against the so-called football creditors rule.
