Cardiff City hit with second transfer ban

Cardiff City have again been ordered to suspend any transfer negotiations after being served a second winding-up order by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

The football club have an unpaid PAYE tax bill believed to be around £1.3 million, but chief executive Gethin Jenkins has moved to reassure supporters that the dispute will be resolved before the start of the new season in August.

"As is normal procedure, if PAYE isn't paid then HMRC [is] fully entitled to lodge a petition," he explained. "Cardiff City Football Club fully expect to pay monies owed in the forthcoming week."

Legal representatives of the Welsh side are currently facing a return to the High Court on August 11th 2010 if an agreement is not reached before then and manager Dave Jones has been forced to place his preparations for the new season on hold.

Last month, Cardiff City announced that an earlier tax demand of £1.9 million had been paid off in full.
