Controversial Liverpool owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks are set to come under renewed pressure from the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) to find a buyer for the football club, according to a report.
An article in the Liverpool Echo claimed the Merseyside outfit's football fans have besieged the bank with emails urging it to remove the American duo and a recent response has given Reds followers renewed hope that Gillett and Hicks will sell up.
"We are confident that the chairman and the board will be mindful of the need to avoid any unnecessary delay in concluding a sale, as it is in no-one's interest to risk deterioration in the performance of the club," RBS public affairs chief Roger Lowry said.
He added that the financial firm's main objective is to ensure Liverpool's "financial stability" and hinted that RBS will keep a close eye on any change in ownership.
The side are currently burdened by debts of around £350 million.
