Preston North End appoint new director

Championship club Preston North End, recently taken over by local multi-millionaire Trevor Hemmings, have appointed a new director to replace outgoing chairman Derek Shaw.

Wigan Athletic director Maurice Lindsay - a close associate of the Leyland-raised Hemmings - will step into the role of vice-president with immediate effect following Shaw's recent resignation.

"Everyone in football knows the history and tradition of [Preston North End]," he told the Lancashire side's website. "Like everyone else in the game, I want to see [Preston North End's] image restored to the highest possible level."

Lindsay, who is also a former chairman of Wigan's rugby league club, joins the board after Hemmings acquired a 75 per cent stake in Preston North End, who were issued with a winding-up petition by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) last month.

Yesterday (June 21st), Preston North End claimed they had repaid their debts to HMRC and suggested the dismissal of the winding-up order is now a formality.
