Cardiff City clear tax bill

Cardiff City appear to have staved off the threat of administration, after the club revealed they have paid off their £1.9 million tax bill to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Ahead of their latest appearance in the High Court later this week, the Welsh outfit have announced that the winding-up petition served by HMRC earlier this year will be dismissed, as the side no longer owe any money to the taxman.

"I can confirm that the HMRC petition debt has been settled in full," recently-appointed chief executive Gethin Williams said.

The news came after former Leeds United chairman Peter Ridsdale resigned from his role as Cardiff City chief to make way for Malaysian tycoon Datuk Chan Tien Ghee, the frontman of a consortium led by property billionaire Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun.

Last month, the Championship club held an extraordinary general meeting, at which the proposed takeover received the backing of shareholders.
