Leeds United chairman Ken Bates believes football clubs are making significant cuts to their wage bills, after a series of much-publicised financial crises this season.
In an interview with Yorkshire Radio, he claimed "a little bit of sanity" is returning to the sport's finances and explained that the vast majority of sides are seeking to slash salaries against their turnover.
Bates also added his backing to Football League plans to impose quotas of home-grown players, saying: "This is an idea both the Premier League and the Football League are trying to implement to encourage the growth of youngsters and give them a better chance."
The ex-Chelsea chief also found an opportunity for a slight dig at his old club, pointing out that 172 foreign English Premier League players will be playing at this summer's FIFA World Cup.
Bradford City manager Peter Taylor also welcomed the Football League's decision, telling the Telegraph & Argus he is "keen to see how they follow it through".
