English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers have unveiled plans for a multi-million pound redevelopment of their historic Molineux stadium.
The ground has been home to the Staffordshire side since 1889, but the board of directors intend to invest £40 million into its modernisation, replacing the existing Steve Bull and Stan Cullis stands and expanding Molineux's capacity to 50,000.
"We have a long-term vision," chief executive Jez Moxey explained. "We have to generate more revenue streams that we can then use to invest back into the infrastructure and back into the team."
Moxey described the proposals as "a statement of the club's ambition" and admitted they are dependent on the team retaining their top-flight status, but insisted Wolverhampton Wanderers will not succumb to the temptation of spending beyond their means during the close season.
Manager Mick McCarthy's side exceeded expectations last season, comfortably securing their place in the English Premier League, unlike fellow newcomers Burnley.
