Newly-promoted Blackpool will resist the temptation of spending beyond their means during the close season, a director has claimed.
The Lancashire side sealed their passage into the English Premier League with a 3-2 playoff final win over Cardiff City, but Latvian entrepreneur Valeri Belokon does not want to see Blackpool fritter their way into trouble like Hull City and Portsmouth.
Speaking to the Times, he admitted that the imminent financial boon will help, but added: "We want to compete well in the [English Premier League] but we have to use the money carefully. Giving obscene money to players is not right."
Mr Belokon, who insisted that the club remains debt-free, compared Blackpool's current approach with the glory days of the 1960s and suggested that "modest, small budgets" could bring "very good results".
Manager Ian Holloway told BBC News his team's playoff triumph will benefit the whole town, with tourism bosses predicting local businesses could be set for a multi-million pound windfall.
