Win or bust for Cardiff City, says Blake

Former Cardiff City striker Nathan Blake has warned defeat in the upcoming Championship playoff final could spell disaster for the club.

The Bluebirds have been in and out of the High Court since March to resolve a dispute over an unpaid tax bill and Blake described the Wembley clash with Blackpool as "a game which [Cardiff City] cannot afford to lose".

Speaking to BBC Sport Wales, the ex-Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers player admitted the repercussions of failure "are not going to be pretty", adding: "I don't think the club would fold, but cutting back seems inevitable with their debt."

Chairman Peter Ridsdale, who will step down from his post at the end of this month, conceded there is "a lot of money riding on the outcome", but claimed the new Cardiff City Stadium has improved the Welsh side's financial performance.

Last week, Malaysian businessman Datuk Chan Tien Ghee pledged to plough extra investment into Cardiff City.
