Liverpool football fans 'considering boycott'

Liverpool supporters could boycott season tickets next term in a bid to hasten the departure of unpopular owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Fans' group Spirit of Shankly is yet to confirm whether it will officially urge Reds followers not to renew their tickets for next season, but a spokesman has suggested that escalated protests against the Americans may be on the cards.

Speaking to Goal.com, James McKenna claimed supporters are "considering giving up" their seats, adding: "If [Gillett and Hicks's] regime continues, I know that a lot of fans will be asking serious questions [over] whether they should go to the games."

However, Mr McKenna also said that an organised boycott is currently "not something that's on the agenda", but warned that Liverpool fans are concerned about the Anfield club's long-term future.

Earlier this month, the Times revealed that the side's debts had escalated to £472.5 million in the financial year ending in July 2009.
