EA Sports' World Cup game tops gaming charts for third week

Football Technology and Stadia

Games publisher EA Sports' new football title 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa has recorded a third successive week as the UK's best-selling game.

The football title was released at the beginning of the month for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and PSP and has proven the top choice among British gamers since, despite competition from gaming favourites like Super Street Fighter IV.

It is the first football title to feature a full online World Cup tournament mode, as well as including a feature which allows players to recreate real-life matches hours after they have concluded.

The game is also fully-licensed and features all 199 teams which took part in the qualifying stages of this year's tournament.

EA Sports's success with 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa comes after the publisher enjoyed even stronger sales with last year's FIFA 10.

The game was the second-biggest selling game of 2009 in Britain and has since become the tenth-best seller in UK gaming history.
