Recently-relegated Hull City have asked their playing squad to accept lower salaries as the debt-burdened Tigers try to balance their books.
BBC Sport has reported that the Professional Footballers' Association has held urgent discussions with Hull City, after returning chairman Adam Pearson made the offer as part of an effort to adjust the club's finances.
Previously, Pearson had said: "We have talked to the players and they are going away to think about it. The players were given those contracts, they didn't ask for them."
Former manager Phil Brown's situation is also yet to be resolved after he was placed on gardening leave in March, but it is believed that he will be offered a severance deal within the next few days.
Last month, Pearson aimed fierce criticism at his predecessor Paul Duffen, suggesting his financial management of the Yorkshire side had been "extremely short-sighted" and accusing him of displaying "poor business sense" during his tenure.
