Liverpool attract increased TV revenue

Liverpool have experienced a seven-figure increase in the amount of money earned from TV rights, according to a report.

An article on the Guardian's website claims club accounts show a total of £74.596 million in media revenue for the 2008-09 season. However, the Reds' disappointing domestic performances this term could cost them around £3 million next year, after a seventh-place finish.

The newspaper also says their strong showing in European competitions over recent years and UEFA's new media rights agreement could increase the Anfield club's earnings further, with a combined domestic and continental rise of around £1.4 million.

Despite the climb in TV cash, Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has urged unpopular American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks to sell up as quickly as possible so as not to overshadow the team's preparation for next term.

Supporters have become increasingly critical of the pair over recent months and Liverpool's debt is now believed to stand at £472.5 million.
