Rangers supporters have threatened to boycott Lloyds unless the state-owned bank provides financial backing for the troubled Ibrox club.

According to BBC News, Rangers and Lloyds shareholder John MacPherson claimed the firm could lose between £1.2 billion and £2.6 billion should 'Gers followers withdraw their custom, following dissatisfaction with the group's handling of the situation.

Lloyds' Scottish head Archie Kane claimed the company is well aware of fans' concerns and said: "I can tell you we are supportive towards the management of Rangers in their endeavours to try to resolve the future of the club."

Mr Kane added that Lloyds will seek a meeting next week with senior figures at Rangers and described the financial institution as "committed" and "supportive" as the side attempt to extricate themselves from an estimated debt of £30 million.

Earlier this week, English property developer Andrew Ellis expressed optimism that his protracted takeover bid could be completed within the month.
