A Liverpool supporter has declared his intention to take legal action after being refused entry to the 2007 UEFA Champions League final.
Local businessman Paul Gregory had intended to sue European football's governing body but is now taking aim at the English FA, claiming the organisation had responsibility for the welfare of Reds followers who made the trip to Athens three years ago.
He admitted that prosecuting UEFA in a UK court could have proved problematic, but said: "I believe the FA owes me a duty of care, as a fan of one of its member clubs, to exercise influence over security standards to UEFA."
Mr Gregory claims he and numerous other Liverpool supporters were tear-gassed and attacked by baton-wielding Greek police officers after being refused admission to the city's Olympic Stadium to see the Anfield side take on Italian giants AC Milan.
A disappointing season has seen Liverpool miss out on next term's UEFA Champions League entirely, with Tottenham Hotspur sealing their place inside English football's top four.
