Notts County have earned promotion, says chairman

Promoted League Two club Notts County have not cheated their way out of the division, according to chairman Ray Trew.

The Magpies were bought out last summer by mysterious Middle Eastern firm Munto Finance, but it later transpired that the consortium did not have the money to fund deals which took the side over the division's salary cap.

However, the Guardian reports that in an open letter to the rest of League Two, Trew claimed Notts County have responded in "the ideal way" to their financial woes, adding: "Notts County are not currently operating outside of the League Two salary cap but are actually operating comfortably within it."

He went on to add that manager Steve Cotterill, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is looking to add six new players to the squad and that the club should be debt-free by the end of the year.

Notts County currently sit one point clear at the summit of League Two after a 4-1 win over Sammy McIlroy's Morecambe at the weekend.
