Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez's agent says a mystery Chinese investor could be on the verge of making a move for the Anfield side.
Although the Spaniard is reportedly on the managerial shortlist of Italian giants Juventus, his representative Manuel Garcia Quillon claims the Reds, currently burdened by a debt of £237 million, are the target of interest from the Far East.
Quillon hinted that Benitez could leave the club if investment in the squad is not forthcoming and added: "The Chinese have an interest and called Rafa and told him that their condition for buying the club is that he remains coach."
The Reds recently declined an offer from New York firm the Rhone Group, but unpopular owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are understood to be actively seeking to sell Liverpool for a rumoured £500 million.
Liverpool have endured a difficult season in the English Premier League and look set to miss out on UEFA Champions League qualification.
