Australian FA 'stunned' by Leeds United rumours

Football Federation Australia (FFA) have expressed shock at reports that their chairman, Frank Lowy, could be set to make a move for League One club Leeds United.

The Australian media had claimed over the weekend that Lowy, believed to be worth around £2 billion, had commissioned a due diligence report in January. However, FFA say they are unaware of any potential offer.

A spokesman told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "We have no knowledge whatsoever of any interest by Mr Lowy in Leeds United. We were surprised by the story."

Lowy, 80, is a key figure in Australia's efforts to host the FIFA World Cup in either 2018 or 2022. Leeds United have issued a statement denying they are aware of any interest.

After a strong start to the season, the Whites suffered a loss of form after an FA Cup run which saw them reach the sixth round. However, three consecutive wins have recently seen them return to the automatic promotion places in League One.
