Rangers 'feeling the pressure' of takeover talk

Football Clubs News | Football Finance News

Rangers boss Walter Smith has admitted that the constant speculation surrounding the club's ownership is taking its toll.

Smith suggested that he and other members of the coaching staff could stay on next season without written contracts until the question is resolved, hinting at some frustration at the lack of progress.

Discussing the takeover gossip, he commented: "I have said in conversations with everyone concerned that the matter has to get sorted out sooner rather than later."

Majority stakeholder Sir David Murray is seeking to sell his shares in Rangers and a supporters' group is believed to be in the early stages of putting an offer together. English property tycoon Andrew Ellis also has a long-standing interest in the club.

Although the Ibrox side have a comfortable ten-point lead over arch-rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premier League title race, their debts are believed to be in the region of £30 million.
