The so-called Red Knights consortium aiming to wrestle ownership of Manchester United from the Glazer family has said it will not submit an offer for the club before the end of the season.
Earlier this month, the group announced it was in the early stages of drawing up a takeover proposal and was seeking to recruit further investors, but has now confirmed in a statement that no concrete bid would be made until the summer at the earliest.
The statement said the Red Knights were continuing to lay the foundation for a buyout, but claimed that the delay would "have the advantage of minimising external distractions" as the English Premier League title race hots up.
In the face of increasing dissent among the club's supporters, Manchester United announced last week that they would freeze ticket prices for the 2010-11 season in spite of rising interest on the club's reported £700 million debt.
