Portsmouth fined £1m by English Premier League

Portsmouth have received another financial blow after the English Premier League imposed a fine on the club for rule breaches.

The penalty is estimated at £1 million and comes shortly after the south coast outfit were docked nine points for entering administration last month.

It is thought that the fine relates to the club's late payment of transfer money and their repeated failures to deliver the wages of players and staff on time in recent months.

"Portsmouth have been fined for a series of breaches of our rules and regulations during the course of this season," a league spokesperson told the Sun.

Meanwhile, manager Avram Grant confirmed that striker Aruna Dindane was not selected for the clash with Hull City at Fratton Park on Saturday (March 20th) to avoid triggering a £4 million payment to French side Lens.

A clause in the Ivorian player's contract stipulates that his parent club must receive the cash if he plays another game for Portsmouth this season.
