Sheffield Wednesday boss eager for takeover

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has spoken of his hopes regarding the club's rumoured takeover.

With American sports investment firm Club 9 Sports reportedly close to completing a deal which will see them take the reins of the Championship side, boss Irvine hopes the agreement will see more funding for players come his way.

Speaking to the South Yorkshire Star newspaper, the former Preston North End manager said: "If something happens that makes things easier, that would be fantastic."

"I came in knowing there was a possibility of a takeover, [but] I didn't take the job on that basis."

Club 9 Sports' proposed buyout of Sheffield Wednesday has been on the cards for a number of months and the American group were outed as suitors in January. It was reported last June that a rival American consortium was also interested.

The Hillsborough club's chairman Lee Strafford recently insisted in an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield that the relegation-threatened outfit would not be allowed to enter administration by the Co-operative Bank.
