A takeover bid for Derby County by multimillionaire Peter Gadsby is reported to have been rebuffed by the current owners.
Former chairman Gadsby, who has been involved in running the club during three separate spells, told the Derby Telegraph that he has had a "lifelong love affair" with the club and reportedly offered £37 million to take the reigns again.
The property developer also recently detailed plans for the redevelopment of the area around Pride Park, which would involve a sports village alongside residential and commercial spaces.
His last period with the Rams ended shortly after he sold his majority shareholding to Hull businessman Adam Pearson and the club was taken over by General Sports and Entertainment.
But Mr Gadsby was quoted as saying: "Some things are for life and that is why I am bidding to buy it back and give precedence to the football and the fans."
However, current chairman Andy Appleby has insisted that the club is not for sale.
Derby County currently sit 16th in the Championship and face Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium this weekend.
