Portsmouth face wait over FA Cup money

Portsmouth will have to make a special representation to the FA before they can receive the prize money stemming from their recent cup exploits.

Avram Grant's side defeated Birmingham City 2-0 to reach the last four of the FA Cup on Saturday (March 6th), earning over £600,000 in winnings and broadcast fees.

However, the current financial situation at the club means that the administrators will have to seek approval from the FA before the cash is handed over.

Andrew Andronikou of UHY Hacker Young, who was appointed as administrator at Fratton Park last month, said he is confident that Portsmouth will receive their reward.

"I don't envisage there will be any problems. We had a very constructive meeting with the FA last week," he commented.

FA rules also state that clubs in administration can be thrown out of the competition altogether, although the governing body has made it clear that such an outcome is unlikely at this stage.

Portsmouth will face Fulham or Tottenham Hotspur in the last four on April 10th as they attempt to reach the FA Cup final for the second time in three years.
