Manchester United not for sale, says Gill

Manchester United's chief executive David Gill has responded to reports that a group of investors are considering buying the club by saying it is not on the market.

He stated that the Glazer family are "very long-term owners" and insisted there is no chance that the so-called Red Knights could take over at Old Trafford as the situation currently stands.

"Unless the owners wish to sell ... then they can't buy the asset," he commented. "It is not for sale."

Gill also backed the way the Glazers have been running the club since making the purchase in 2005.

High debt levels have drawn staunch criticism from fans, who have lobbied the Red Knights to come to the rescue.

But Gill, who has been at Manchester United since 1997, said the Americans have been doing things "the right way" and that recent results show that the financial structure they have in place is tenable.
