Lincoln City to display FIFA World Cup trophy

Lincoln City's Sincil Bank stadium will be the only football ground in the UK to display the FIFA World Cup trophy during its 225-day global tour, it has been announced.

The golden statuette is being showcased in 83 different countries in the run up to this summer's World Cup in South Africa and will head to Lincoln on March 12th after being exhibited in London.

Club officials have said that the trophy's visit is a major coup for Lincoln City, with the cup set to fly out of the UK immediately after its presentation at Sincil Bank, which will be held ahead of the team's League Two fixture against Hereford United.

According to the Lincolnshire Echo, it is possible that it is the first time the city has ever welcomed the World Cup trophy.

The statuette is currently in Guadalajara, Mexico, having travelled up through South America over the last few weeks.
