Manchester United supporters 'planning takeover'

Manchester United fans are reportedly in discussions with a group of wealthy investors over the possibility of purchasing the club from current owners the Glazer family.

Football financier Keith Harris - who is a supporter of the north-west team - revealed in an interview with BBC Sport over the weekend that he had been approached by the Manchester United Supporters' Trust over a potential takeover.

He suggested that he believes such a buyout at Old Trafford would be possible.

"You sense that the momentum is gathering and this time these fans truly mean it," Mr Harris commented.
"I think they are saying that enough is enough."

The revelation earlier this month that Manchester United's debts had exceeded £700 million for the first time was met with an angry reaction from fans.

Many supporters have been seen at recent games wearing green and gold scarves - the team's original colours from their days as Newton Heath - in protest at the Glazers' ownership.

The would-be investors, dubbed the Red Knights, have yet to be named, but the supporters' trust apparently met with them in London last week.
