Portsmouth are hoping that their transfer ban will be lifted this week after providing documentation to the English Premier League that is said to prove they have reached a rescheduled payment agreement with Udinese.
According to sources cited by the Guardian, the club have agreed to pay an initial installment of 525,000 (£460,000) to the Italian side, who are still owed £3.6 million from the £7 million deal that saw Sulley Muntari go to Fratton Park in May 2007.
Should the paperwork be deemed acceptable, Portsmouth's transfer embargo - imposed over concerns about money owed by the club to others - could be overturned as early as today (January 26th), giving them several days to add to their squad before the window closes next week.
The south coast outfit are currently four points adrift at the bottom of the English Premier League and are odds-on favourites to be relegated this season at the bookmakers.
