West Ham United takeover makes no sense, says Sullivan

David Sullivan has admitted that he and David Gold's takeover of West Ham United "makes no sense commercially".

The former Birmingham City owners assumed control of the east London outfit today (January 19th) after purchasing a 50 per cent holding that values the club at £105 million.

Sullivan said that it was duo's status as Hammers supporters that had motivated the takeover bid, with numerous financial problems still hanging over Upton Park.

He told the Guardian: "We're taking over an incredibly bad situation. We wouldn't buy this club at all if it wasn't West Ham.

"We bought this as fans, as supporters, not from a business point of view."

Sullivan went on to reveal that the club will aim to move into east London's Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games.

He also confirmed that Karren Brady, the former managing director at Birmingham City, will be reunited with Sullivan and Gold by becoming vice-chairman at Upton Park.
