Norwich City's Grant Holt is the latest player to suggest the introduction of a mid-season break in the English Football League.
With games around the country being postponed due to frozen pitches and dangerous travel conditions in recent weeks, Holt called for a change to the fixture schedule.
The former Nottingham Forest striker told BBC Radio Five Live that the high number of postponed matches has made the English game seem "a bit of a shambles".
He said: "Decisions need to be made. They are going to have to start having breaks over Christmas."
Norwich City's League One match against Walsall on December 28th was called off due to an unplayable surface after about 2,000 Canaries fans travelled to the West Midlands.
Meanwhile, Hull City midfielder Kevin Kilbane has claimed that the cold weather and busy fixture list could be harming attendances at some matches.
Speaking after his side's FA Cup game against Wigan Athletic on Saturday (January 2nd) - which attracted a crowd of just 5,335 - the Republic of Ireland international said that a "ten-day or two-week break" over Christmas could help to keep stadiums full.
